Abp. Kyrill of San Francisco (ROCOR) takes leave of absence for health

The Western American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of the Russia (ROCOR) announced yesterday that His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America has been granted a temporary leave of absence with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, the First Hierarch of ROCOR.

The leave was granted for His Eminence to have time to address some health issues.

In his absence, His Grace Bishop Theodosy of Seattle has been appointed as the temporary administrator of the diocese, with all the privileges of a ruling hierarch. He will be assisted by His Grace Bishop Irenei of Sacramento.

Abp. Kyrill has been serving in the Western American Diocese since 1982. After being ordained and serving for a year in Jerusalem, he was transferred to San Francisco for health reasons. He was consecrated as the Bishop of Seattle, Vicar Bishop of the Diocese of San Francisco in 1992, and was appointed the ruling bishop of the diocese in 2000. He was elevated to the rank of archbishop in 2003. He is currently 63 years old.
