His Eminence was in intensive care after undergoing heart surgery in March, although his life was not in danger.

His Eminence spoke with in January about the attempts of Uniates and schismatics in Ukraine to seize the Lavra and celebrate their own false services in it, and about how God has protected the Lavra throughout many decades and centuries of persecutions.

At that time he offered a simple yet profound, Scriptural truth that speaks to his present condition: “We must remember that the Lord is with us, and that the thorny and narrow path leads to the Kingdom of Heaven.”
