Wonderworking Borzna Icon of Mother of God, believed lost, found after 100 years (+ VIDEO)

Nizhyn, Ukraine, July 16, 2018

After being lost for about a century, the wonderworking Borzna Icon of the Mother of God has been found in Kharkov, reports the site of Nizhyn Diocese.

From ancient times, the sacred object of the Chernigov lands was to be found in the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Borzna in the Chernigov Province, where it was glorified by innumerable miracles of healing. St. Philaret (Gumilevsky) of Chernigov and Nizhyn writes that the icon is celebrated on the 10th Friday of Pascha, and that many people would flock from the surrounding villages to honor the holy icon and partake of Holy Communion.

After the closure of the Church of the Nativity in the early 20th century, the wonderworking icon was preserved by a local believer for a long time, although it was lost for a long time after her repose.

The holy icon was recently miraculously found by Archimandrite Nikodim (Silka) in Kharkov, who returned it to the Nizhyn Diocese.

The icon is currently being kept in the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Nizhyn, where it was greeted yesterday by the clergy of the Nizhyn Diocese, headed by His Eminence Archbishop Clement of Nizhyn and Prilutsk, before returning to its historical place in Borzna.

After meeting the icon, Abp. Clement led the reading of an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos before the icon. He also thanked Archimandrite Nikodim for his efforts in finding the lost treasure.

The Borzna Icon will remain in the Nizhyn cathedral for about a month, where a moleben with an akathist will be served before it daily, before returning to Borzna.
