Three men involved in the July robbery, beating, and teargassing of a priest, his matushka, and his grandson have been arrested in the Chernigov Region.

They face up to 12 years’ imprisonment with the confiscation of their property, reports the Ukrainian portal Today.

Fr. Stefan Gavia and his matushka were bound up, beaten, and teargassed during a robbery in their home in the village of Loknyste on the night of July 23-24, as OrthoChristian previously reported.

Their grandson was locked up in the adjacent room. The men demanded $10,000, but in the end, made off with only $415 (11,000 hyrvnia) and the matushka’s earrings. The men then fled in Fr. Stefan’s car, which they later ditched in Chernigov.

Police were searching for the men ever since the late-July crime. “Two of them are from the Cherkasy Region, and one is a local resident—he’s the organizer,” the National Police Department in the Chernigov Province commented.
