New chapel built in honor of 100th anniversary of martyrdom of Fr. Konstantin Sergeev

October 13 marked the 100th anniversary of the execution of the priest Konstantin Sergeev and several parishioners of his church. In honor of this anniversary, a new chapel was erected at the site of the their martyrdom near the village of Starie Kutushi in the Cheremshansky District of Tatarstan, reports the site of the Tatarstan Metropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Fr. Konstantin served as rector of the Church of the Nativity in the village of Starie Kutushi and was shot on October 13, 1918 by a detachment of the Red Army.

The memorial event was attended by representatives of the Cheremshanksy administration, the clergy of the Cheremshanksy Deanery of the Chistopol Diocese, Cossacks, and other Orthodox faithful.

The guests of honor for the chapel opening ceremony were the martyred Fr. Konstantin’s great grandson Konstantin Sergeev and his wife Svetlana, who arrived from Odessa for the event.

Hieromonk Seraphim (Karpukhin) of the local deanery served a litia for the reposed and consecrated the newly-built chapel. Fr. Seraphim urged all present to remember the tragic pages of Russian history and to honor the memory of the holy New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, and all those killed in the persecutions against the Orthodox faith.

Funds for the building of the chapel and the beautification of the place of the righteous repose of the Orthodox martyrs was provided by the patron Gennady Davidov.
