Church of Royal Martyrs consecrated in Belarus

Maladziečna, Belarus, December 27, 2018

A new church in honor of the holy Royal Passion-Bearers was consecrated in the Belarusian city of Maladziečna in the Minsk Province on Tuesday, December 25, the day of St. Spyridon the Wonderworker on the old calendar.

The rite of the Great Consecration was celebrated in the lower church of the Dormition Cathedral by His Eminence Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zalslavl, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus. He was concelebrated by His Grace Bishop Pavel of Maladziečna and Stowbtsy and His Grace Bishop Porphry of Lida and Smorgon and a number of diocesan clergy, reports the site of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

Completion of the construction on the church and its consecration were timed to the centenary of the martyrdom of the Royal Family that was celebrated this year on July 17 and throughout the year.

The Divine Liturgy was then celebrated on the newly-consecrated altar for the first time.

Following the service, the parishioners were presented with icons of the Royal Passion-Bearers.

Another church in honor of the Royal Passion-Bearers was also consecrated in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on December 22—the first church in their honor in Central Asia.
