The local community is in shock after a 59-year-old priest was found hanged in a church near Larissa, Greece.

“The incident fell like lightning in the wider area” around the Church of St. Athanasius, where the priest was found in the women’s section of the church, hanged while wearing his riassa, reports Romfea.

The priest is reportedly from the Peloponnese region, where he will be laid to rest.

An ambulance rushed to the scene while the police were inspecting the scene.

An autopsy is expected.

Hello, I've called the halki church in Istanbul. This didn't happen. It happened in Greece, close to Larissa.
