An Orthodox parish serving the suburbs of Madrid has been blessed with a piece of the relics of its patron saint.

On Sunday, March 8, a fragment of the relics of the great St. John (Maximovitch) were gifted to the Romanian Church of St. John in Las Rozas of Madrid and Majadahonda, reports the Basilica News Agency.

The precious gift was brought by His Grace Bishop Timothy of Spain and Portugal, who served an Akathist to St. John in the parish during his visit.

In return, the rector Fr. Nicodim Moldovan gave Bp. Timothy an icon of St. John.

The parish was established in 2016.

In June 2018, the outdoor summer altar at Mărcuș Monastery in central Romania was consecrated in honor of St. John (Maximovitch) and St. John the New of Muscel.
