Church, Community Center, Store, Houses Burn in Penza Region Village

Penza, August 20, 2010 - Interfax

A major fire occurred in the village of Mokryje Polyany, the Penza Region on Thursday.

"The fire started in an unused church and then spread to neighboring buildings along the dry grass," Interfax was told at the regional Interior Department on Friday.

The fire destroyed the discarded village community center, an operating store, two homes with outbuildings, three vacant houses and three country homes, a spokesman said.

Nobody was killed or injured in the fire and the causes for it are being investigated.

Meanwhile, a grain store burned down in the village of Sergopolivanovo, the Penza Region.

The fire destroyed grain stocks in two buildings of the store. The causes of the fire is being investigated and the damage estimated.
