Over 1000 icons labeled in Yaroslavl region

The Ministry for Internal Affairs on the initiative of Interpol has carried out an operational-preventive operation on October 21-28 in the Yaroslavl region with the aim of ascertainment and prevention of channels of transportation from Russia of stolen cultural treasures and of counteraction against their subsequent legalization.

In the course of these measures 159 churches, monasteries and convents, as well as a number of museums, antique shops and libraries of the region have been examined. 1345 Icons and Church vessels have been labeled, reports the press service of the Ministry for Internal Affairs on Friday.

The collected information will be at the disposal of Russian law enforcement agencies to prevent their theft and transportation abroad.

On the territory of the Yaroslavl region, during nine months of this year 60 crimes were registered involving the illegal transport of cultural heritage objects.
