It has been announced that His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany and Great Britain (ROCOR) is soon to resign from his British. An August 31st statement from the Chancellor of the Diocese of Great Britain and Ireland reads:

His Eminence Archbishop Mark will shortly be retiring as ruling hierarch of the Diocese of Great Britain and Ireland. Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church outside of Russia (ROCOR) will take over administration of the diocese until new arrangements can be confirmed. The exact timing of this change will be announced shortly.

Inspired by a recent pilgrimage to Moscow, a group of English Orthodox Christians returned home with a great veneration for St. Elizabeth and founded the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Romanov Society. As Maria Harwood, who co-founded the society with her husband John, writes: “Definitely we were inspired by our pilgrimage. We became a group of people bound by our love of the saint and by enthusiasm to spread knowledge about her life and deeds in the country which greatly influenced her personality.”

Once a certain herdsman named Ioves was searching for a pig that had gone astray. He walked deep into the forest and saw the Mother of God with two angels on the site of present-day Evesham. Amazed by this vision, the herdsman told Bishop Egwin about the miracle. The saint prayed very hard for several days and then decided to go to that place himself. The holy hierarch had exactly the same vision, which had already appeared to Ioves. The Mother of God ordered Bishop Egwin to found a monastery on the site and blessed him with a cross. This event is considered to be the first recorded miraculous appearance of the Mother of God in England.
