Venerable Athanasius of Murom

Saint Athanasius was igumen at the monastery of Saint Lazarus during the mid-fifteenth century. After his death, the ascetic’s body was buried in a separate chapel, where the chains of the saint were preserved as evidence of his exploits.

The veneration of this saint goes back a long time. In the second half of the seventeenth century they called Saint Athanasius “a wonderworking monk.”
