St. Petersburg: unknown person tries to set church on fire, another detained for graffitiing church

At least two churches have been attacked and vandalized recently in St. Petersburg.

Police are currently searching for a suspect in an attempt to set fire to a church in the Vyborg District of the northern capital yesterday, reports RIA-Novosti.

“On April 8, the police of the Vyborg District of St. Petersburg received a message from a guard of one of the churches on Bolshaya Ozernaya Street that an unknown attacker had set fire to an unidentified liquid in jars inside a backpack, and tried to throw the bag into the church building,” according to a statement from the press service of the St. Petersburg and Leningrad Province of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
