“Stop shooting, at least in the days of Pascha,” the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church urged those involved in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine.
In a video appeal published by the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine pleaded:
On these holy days, I would like to appeal to those who have influence over the armed conflict in the east of our Ukrainian state, in Donbass—for the sake of Christ, stop shooting, at least in the days of Pascha!
His Beatitude also called for the release of all captives, so that “they could meet this great, bright day of Christ’s Pascha with their families.”
Recall that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has been instrumental in securing the release of captives in the past.
Earlier in the week, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that negotiations for the return to a ceasefire in Donbass are at the final stage.
