His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania was decorated with the highest state award yesterday, on his 70th birthday.

The Order of the Star of Romania, 1st Class was conferred upon him by President Klaus Iohannis for his contribution to guiding the pastoral, missionary, cultural, social, and philanthropic activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the country and in the diaspora, and to increasing the common good by cultivating interfaith dialogue, reports the Basilica News Agency.

“Nowadays, one of the most complex challenges, to which you respond successfully, is the preservation of spiritual identity and cohesion in the Romanian communities in the diaspora,” the head of state told the head of the Church.

He also praised the Church for the modern means by which it brings the faith to even the most distant Romanian communities.

In turn, the Patriarch thanked the President, emphasizing that he accepts the award as an honor for the entire Romanian Orthodox Church.
