Metropolitan Onuphry heads feast of St. Vladimir and Baptism of Rus’

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine headed the annual celebration of the anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’ at the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra last night and this morning.

The celebration coincides with the feast of the Equal-to-the-Apostles St. Vladimir the Great, the Baptizer of Rus’. This year marks the 1,034th anniversary.

Together with a number of hierarchs and clerics of the Ukrainian Church, Met. Onuphry celebrated the All-Night Vigil on the Lavra’s cathedral square last night, reports the Information-Education Department of the UOC.

The feast continued with the Divine Liturgy on the cathedral square this morning.

During the service, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and mercy for the Ukrainian people, including soldiers, prisoners, the sick, and the homeless.

Following the Liturgy, Met. Onuphry led a procession to the Far Caves, where prayers were offered to the Holy Prince Vladimir.

Finally, the Ukrainian primate serve a memorial litiya at the grave of his predecessor, His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan).
