No Halloween parade this year in New York City

New York, October 31, 2012

Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane “Sandy”, the annual Halloween parade will not take place this year for the first time in its history. The tradition of celebrating goblins and witches was instituted 39 years ago in the Big Apple.

The parade was to initiate in Greenwich Village. It usually includes over 50,000 costumed participants, and attracts around 2 million observers.

The NYC police department disaster division made the decision to cancel the parade.
