The Church of St. Jonah of Manchuria in Spring, Texas, celebrated the 100th anniversary of its patron saint’s repose on October 20, with approximately 200 faithful gathering from across the country, including visitors from Florida, California, and Illinois.
The Patriarch was invited to Romania to participate in the consecration of the mosaics of the People’s Salvation Cathedral, which was celebrated on Saturday.
Bp. Sylvester thanked Met. Fotije and the faithful of his diocese for their brotherly love and assistance to his diocese. He particularly highlighted the significance of the Well of Drinking Water for the Children of Uganda initiative, which began in March of this year with the Metropolitan’s blessing and was organized by the church community of Koprivna.
The Lavige community now numbers about 100 Orthodox faithful, most of whom are children. Despite modest material conditions, the parish continues to develop actively and grow spiritually.
On October 24, the Council for Cultural Affairs recommended to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that four Meiji-era buildings on the grounds of the Japanese Orthodox church in Kanda-Surugadai, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo be designated as Important Cultural Properties.
