Father Ioasaph and the Alaska Mission

This is the example of Christ himself, abused and executed by those whose very task it had been to await and receive the promised Messiah. Christ endured for the love of the world, and the Kodiak missionaries endured for the love of the Alaskan people. May we all receive Christ with the eagerness and patience of the Christians of Alaska. May our lives bear the fruits of the humble, uncomplaining love practiced by those who evangelize us.

Justice & Mercy Have Kissed

Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women 2016

Rev. Gregory Jensen

My brothers and sisters in Christ, far from being opposed, justice and mercy require each other. Without mercy, the pursuit of justice becomes harsh and unyielding; without justice, however, mercy becomes mere sentimentality and leads me to collude with evils great and small.

God is humble so we should be humble, and you can read the Scriptures as being entirely this story—God can do anything, and without Him we can do nothing. If God can create out of nothing He is infinitely greater than us. It’s essential for us to find in every verse and in every moment of life ways to become humble. We hear these verses all the time and it’s so easy to read one verse and pass onto the next, but if we can stop and think about what it’s really saying about God and ourselves in comparison to God, it will help us to find our humility which is an essential beginning point to the spiritual life.

Righteous Job: Pre-covenantal Priest, Prophet, and King

Dcn. Matthew Fuhrman

If Job, who had neither the Law nor the grace of the Spirit within the Church, could endure such a horrid trial, how much more are we given to endure the onslaught of the devil and his demons? If we remain steadfast in our faith in God no matter what comes our way, we will all be God's priests, prophets, and kings—we will all be like Job.
