The material needs of Orthodox worship are beautiful and wonderful, but also immense. These many material requirements of Orthodox worship create an interesting problem for new missions and small parishes. Worship in the Orthodox Church is brought to full bloom when the faithful are surrounded with beautiful icons, vestments, and all manner of liturgical items. The kingship and majesty of Christ is, in part, reflected in the furnishings of the Church.

In early 2015, Pravoslavie.ru posted in both Russian and English an article by Clement Nehamaiyah on his path to the Orthodox Church. To our pleasant surprise, we learned that the article was read in India and prompted an Indian non-Chalcedonian Christian to write a letter to Clement in which he attempts to prove that the “Indian Orthodox Church” is the true Church of Christ as it was brought to India by the Apostle Thomas. We asked Clement to answer this very interesting letter, and his brother Polycarp, who became Orthodox together with his brother, responded.

Writing the history of a religious institution involves understanding concepts and language within their historical and cultural context. Otherwise, the risk is taken that history will be rewritten to suit current preoccupations. Boswell's attempt to prove that the Byzantines regarded adelphopoiesis as a form of marriage fails because his research presents historical facts and events out of context.
