Entire Families were benefited by Father Valentin. There were times when he helped people to get their jobs back after they had been fired and their families left without an income. He helped widows to find jobs. In another case, a husband’s death left a wife and three young children without any means of living. Father Valentin found wealthy people who were willing to help and financially support the struggling family.

Our human condition may be compared to life on an island of lepers, where the inhabitants are in different stages of recovery. The Sacrament of Baptism washes away the leprosy of sin and infuses great spiritual power into a man. The scars of sin, however, do not disappear right away. A certain predisposition to sin remains.
On September 2, 2012, the St. Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina, California hosted a celebration of the thirty year anniversary of the repose of Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose). Father Seraphim is known throughout the Orthodox world for his writings. Those attending the Divine Liturgy and the festive meal afterwards included Americans who knew Father Seraphim personally.

We can’t say that our path is ideal; there has been much that is bitter and hard, and many mistakes were made. But there is nothing in this world that is ideal. The main thing about this path is that it is a search not only for the earthly, but for the heavenly. This is a very serious and important point. And it must be allowed that we are capable of making a deep analysis of our mistakes in order to avoid repeating them in the future.
