The Last True Rebellion

At a time when the press both within Russia and beyond is raking through the events surrounding a group of punk rock girls who gained a previously elusive notoriety by blaspheming on the solea of the Russia’s preeminent Christ the Savior Cathedral as if it were a stage, it seems appropriate to mention a group of punks in the U.S. who have found the answer to their angst in Orthodox Christianity.

St. Vladimir's Day Celebration in Fort Ross

Traditionally there is a big celebration called the Day of "Living History", which takes place on the last Saturday of July each year in the first Russian settlement in California—Fort Ross. As a beginning, Prokhor set off with five companions to the Kiev Caves Lavra, desiring to receive the blessing of the Kiev Elders. Among the ascetics of that monastery was the famous elder Dositheus (who was found to be a woman after she died). That clairvoyant elder had been in continual contact with the blessed Elder Paisius Velichkovsky, and with those monastics who were of one mind with him. Dositheus gave Prokhor spiritual instruction, counselled him to study the ancient Holy Fathers on the work of interior prayer, and directed him to go to Sarov Monastery and remain there until death, for there he would find salvation.

Jerusalem authorities and the representatives of the local transportation company have started the process of finalizing the tramway project. The new tramway is going to be built on the property of the famous Orthodox women’s monastery called “Gorny”, dedicated to the meeting of the Mother of God with Righteous Elizabeth, the mother of St. John the Baptist.

I Believe... : A Short Exposition of Orthodox Doctrine

I believe, confess and worship the Holy Trinity. I worship the One, Holy, Indivisible, Consubstantial, Life-Creating and Most Holy Trinity. In the Trinity I worship three persons — three hypostases — that of the Father, that of the Son and that of the Holy Spirit. I do not confuse the persons of the Most Holy Trinity. I do not believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are, as it were, three masks of a single person. None of the persons is alienated from the others, but each has the fulness of the Three together.
