Rapture Theology’s Ominous Origins

Fr. John A. Peck

The doctrine – called futurism – which would later become ‘the rapture’ originated and was submitted by Francisco Ribera in 1585. His Apocalyptic Commentary was on the grand points of Babylon and the Anti-Christ which are now known as the rapture doctrine. Ribera’s published work was called “In Sacram Beati Ionnis Apostoli & Evangelistate Apocoalypsin Commentari” (Lugduni 1593).

Missionary Work Begins With Good Deeds, Respect, and Friendship

Tatiana Veselkina, Bishop Theodosius (Ivashchenko)

As a vicar bishop, I cannot avoid dealing with matters involving youth: to hold divine services and participate in Orthodox youth conferences, give lectures and lead meetings and spiritual discussions. These are all the most common types of missionary events in our diocese.

Wesley J. Smith

Heeding what he considered a divine call to speak out sacrificially, he offered seven homilies to young Romanians, one homily building on the next during each Wednesday of Lent. When the gates were locked, the growing audience of youth defiantly climbed the fence to hear him.

The US Government’s decision to leave the determination of whether an organization is “religious” to the organization itself, and, on the basis of that self-religionizing determination, to afford it all the benefits and protections afforded any other “religions,” is a stupidity that cannot help but increase “religious intolerance.” The US exacerbates this foolishness with a ridiculous policy of condemning, threatening and sanctioning sovereign nations that don’t fall in step with the US’s intolerance-increasing position and actions.

Death, Dying, and Euthanasia

Fr. Stanley Harakas

Euthanasia is held by some to be morally justified and/or morally required to terminate the life of an incurably sick person. To permit a dying person to die, when there is no real expectation that life can sustain itself, and even to pray to the Authorof Life to take the life of one "struggling to die" is one thing; euthanasia is another, i.e., the active intervention to terminate the life of another.
