Russian Greek-Orthodox Archimandrite Tikhon studied film production before entering the clergy, and when his first work as a director and narrator was released earlier this year in “The fall of an Empire – The Lesson of Byzantium” documentary, it created an uproar! The film deals with the Empire’s degradation and how it lost its “ability to respond to the calls of history.” A Greek version has already been released and an English version is underway.

The Holy Confessor Dositheus (Vasich), Metropolitan of Zagreb, was canonized by the Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church in May 2000, together with the other New Martyrs of Serbia. It is truly dreadful the vision that Saint Anthony had regarding the presence of the heretics inside Orthodox churches. This vision illustrates and explains graphically the reasons why the Holy Fathers forbid with Synodal canons the entry of the heretics into consecrated places, their participation in services and liturgies, with common prayers and common worshipping.

Στο τελευταίο μας άρθρο με τίτλο «Μακράν της οδού των Αγίων Πατέρων η συνάντηση Βαρθολομαίου και πάπα» είχαμε εξαγγείλει ότι θα συνεχίζαμε την έκθεση των εκτιμήσεών μας με βάση τη διαχρονική συνείδηση της Εκκλησίας, όπως αυτή εκφράζεται μέσα στους βίους των Αγίων Πατέρων και διδασκάλων. Επειδή μάλιστα ο Άγιος Σπυρίδων, ο θαυματουργός πολιούχος της Κέρκυρας, έδιωξε τον πάπα μέσα από τον ναό του με ένα εντυπωσιακό θαύμα που έκανε, ενώ οι σημερινοί προκαθήμενοι, τον εισάγουν στους ορθόδοξους ναούς, τον ασπάζονται, τον θυμιάζουν και τον πολυχρονίζουν, σχεδιάσαμε να παρουσιάσουμε αυτό το θαύμα, όπως το διασώζει και το σχολιάζει ο Άγιος Αθανάσιος ο Πάριος, μεγάλος λόγιος και διδάσκαλος του Γένους και μέλος της τριάδος των Αγίων Κολλυβάδων του 18ου αιώνος. Ο σχεδιασμός αυτός και η προτεραιότητα παραμένει, με μία μικρή χρονική παρέκκλιση, λόγω της εορτολογικής συγκυρίας.

The film Fall of an Empire displayed in panoramic vision the general movement of human history—what modern man does not want to look at. Unfortunately, modern man sees only the surface of this film, wishing to guard himself from the yoke of responsibility for his actions as observed under the microscope of history. Modern man prefers to see that small stitch of zigzag on which he sits, and doesn’t want to know where this winding river of history flows as a whole. The film reminds us about our foremother Byzantium, something intentionally removed not only from the soviet Russian historical awareness, but also from that of the European.
