Ukraine’s latest hierarchical target is one of the most beloved and authoritative bishops of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Pat. Porfirije hailed the event as marking a great day for the city, the country, the Macedonian people, and the entire Orthodox Church.
One of the main topics the hierarchs dealt with was the canonical status of the Serbian Church’s Ohrid Archdiocese, with its four hierarchs, which continued to exist in North Macedonia even after the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric returned to communion with the Church after decades of schism and was granted autocephalous status last year.
On May 15, the government of Estonia approved a draft law on amendments to the Family Law and other related laws that has now been submitted to the Parliament for discussion. According to the bill, the law will no longer stipulate that marriage is between a man and a woman.
The Bishops’ Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church has been meeting in Belgrade this week. Among the many issues discussed is that of the ever-present problem of the persecution of the Serbian population and Church in Kosovo and Metohija.
