With the institution of marriage under assault from several directions, the concerted efforts of the Left are directed toward either keeping marriage from leading to families, or creating mockeries of marriage which are, by definition, barren.
It is important to understand that this crisis is primarily a spiritual one, and only secondarily an economic one. If we do not understand this, then it will definitely be problematic for us to get out of it. We have lost the meaning of our lives. We have made it consist in the present, transferred the meaning of life to prosperity and happiness.

I suggested that the Australian conferences be held on a more regular basis. They hold such conferences in America annually. The first four conferences in Australia were held once every two years, but then there was a disruption. The singers need more regular meetings.

We were equally impressed with the three monasteries we visited, which offered a glimpse into the incredible life that they are developing. Many of the monastics come from various places in Czech and Slovakia as well as other central and eastern European countries. There is definitely a growing monastic movement, not unlike that found in North America. Finances, of course, are a difficulty, but the monasteries offer a wonderful witness to the faith.

Our people, who have experienced not a motion picture but the real press of a totalitarian government, should have cultivated in themselves a certain feeling of fear in their bones, a kind of defensive reaction against attempts directed at fooling them, controlling their consciousness, at crawling into their souls with dirty boots on. Not in the least. Many still have memories of live, real surveillance, and some still have nightmares of authentic interrogations; meanwhile a television show, called by the name of an imaginary concentration camp, is shown on the screen.
