There is a diabolic texture penetrating throughout this “lamentation”. We can feel the same texture also in the description of Gapon’s speech, supposing as he was (like in a dream!) to personally enter the palace and hand the Tsar a special copy of the petition, printed on the best paper. “Well, I will hand the Tsar the petition, and what will I do if the Tsar accepts it? Then I will take out a white handkerchief and wave it, which will mean that we have a Tsar.

Although certain Apostles are distinguished in Scripture and tradition, for example, Peter, Paul, John, James, and others, none of them were chief, or even superior in honor to the rest. But because in the Acts of the Apostles the labors of the Apostles Peter and Paul are the most told, the Church and the holy fathers, while revering the name of each of the Apostles, call these two Apostles chief. Calling these two Apostles chief in rank and labors, the Church impresses upon us that its head is Jesus Christ alone, and all the Apostles are His servants (cf. Col. 1:18).

Why do people experience depression? "Depression, according to Mark the Ascetic, is a spiritual cross sent to us in order to cleanse our former sins. Depression comes also for other reasons: from offended self-love, because we are not getting our own way; also from vainglory, when one sees that his equals enjoy greater privileges; from stressful situations during which our faith in God's Providence and hope in His mercy and omnipotent help is put to test.
