Saint Philaret (Drozdov), Metropolitan of Moscow

Commemorated on November 19/December 2

Knowledge has for its object things visible and comprehensible; faith, things which are invisible, and even incomprehensible. Knowledge is founded on experience, on examination of its object; but faith on belief of testimony to truth. Knowledge belongs properly to the intellect, although it may also act on the heart; faith belongs principally to the heart, although it is imparted through the intellect.

The Difference Between Orthodox Spirituality and Other Traditions

The dogmas are the results of decisions made at the Ecumenical Councils on various matters of faith. Dogmas are referred to as such, because they draw the boundaries between truth and error, between sickness and health. Dogmas express the revealed truth. They formulate the life of the Church. Reading the Real Bible and Notes on the Real Hell

Fr. Stephen Freeman

Modern thought, including modern Protestant thought, tends to think of “reality” as consisting of only one kind of thing. And this is the way the word is used whether it is referring to green dragons, God, heaven, hell, what I ate last week, etc. My goal is to help readers, on a popular level, understand better the Orthodox teaching on the nature of things – on the world as sacrament – on the character of truth and reality – and thus the nature of our salvation.
