Father John of Kronstadt once said: "If anyone should see a departed person in a dream or while awake (the latter case is extremely rare), then he must read the Psalter or the Holy Gospel for the repose of this person for forty days. He must light at least the smallest wax candle for the repose of the soul of the departed and pray for him until the candle burns out. If a person is busy and cannot pray for long, then he may do so piecemeal, by day or by night."

The priest is the apocalyptic angel of the Lord God Almighty, and, beholding our preceptors, holy and pious pastors, we, modern priests, are summoned in unity with the hierarchy our own hearts to edify, and human souls to heal, not for the sake of filthy lucre, not for the sake of vainglory, but to the glory of the Lord, Who, gazing upon us from Golgotha’s Cross, Divine strength gives us to bear the candle of the priesthood unto our victorious end.

When you walk into any Orthodox sanctuary you are surrounded by sacred art of the saints – icons, or "windows into heaven." Orthodox worship is full of prayers to God, to Jesus and to the Holy Spirit, as well as prayers asking St. Mary the Theotokos (the "God-bearer") and the saints to join with the worshipers in appeals for God's mercy and healing.
