The head of the Save Life charity project for women in crisis pregnancies, Ekaterina Markova, earlier appealed to Moscow authorities to erect a statue of a pregnant woman in an effort to form a more positive image of pregnancy and childbirth.
Now Matushka Maria, who has been involved in Church ministries and charity work for 12 years, including with orphans with disabilities, has been honored with an appointment to the Federation Council from the government of the Penza Province, 375 miles southeast of Moscow. The Federation Council is the upper house of Russian Parliament, consisting of 2 senators from each of Russia’s republics, provinces, and other territorial divisions.

This centre helps mothers in pregnancy crisis and mothers of infant children who are constrained to abandon their offspring: single mothers, teenage mothers, mothers from low-income families, marginalized mothers.
Now in its third year of operation, the Huși Diocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church’s program, “A backpack for the new school year” aims to help 1,400 children from needy families this year.
