Iconography of the Bright Resurrection of Christ.

In Christian art, the most ineffable and important moment in the Gospels—The Resurrection of Christ—is usually not depicted. This miracle is not accessible to human comprehension. It is not described by the Evangelists who wrote the Gospels, nor is it described in Church hymnography. Normally the icons called “Christ’s Resurrection” depict Christ’s descent into hades, or Christ’s appearance after the Resurrection, or the appearance of the angel to the myrrh-bearing women at the Lord’s Sepulcher.
