At the initiative of the Russian Orthodox Church, Russia will be accepting Syrian children to provide them with medical care and a time of rehabilitation.

The Russian Church is among the organizers of the charity project designed to help Syrian children affected by the armed conflict there, reports Blagovest-Info.

With the support of the Russian Ministry of Health, the Russian Church is planning to receive children every month from the zones of the armed conflict in Syria for treatment and rehabilitation in Moscow medical institutions.

“Our common task is to help those victims of the war in Syria (especially children) who have suffered, lost limbs, and who need treatment and rehabilitation,” Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) said at a round table devoted to the project.

“We are initiating a project called ‘Save the Children Together.’ It will be carried out in cooperation with leading Russian medical institutions, and the Ministry of Health, with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the charitable foundations ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Life Line.’ We hope that with the help of this program, we will invite seven to ten children every month, and more in the future, in order to help them recover.”

The participants in the round table noted that special attention will be paid to helping Christians from Lebanon and other Middle Eastern regions because they, for obvious reasons, cannot live in refugee camps with Muslims.

The expert group carried out its first flight to Lebanon in May to meet children from among Syrian refugees in need of medical assistance in Russia.
