A monument to the Holy Hierarch John the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, will be unveiled today at the Orphanage of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk in San Francisco.

“A monument to the Holy Hierarch John the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, a present from the ‘Dialogue of Cultures: United World’ Fund, will be unveiled in the courtyard of the Orphanage and Church of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, a historic site which is directly associated with the life of the holy archbishop. It is visited by hundreds of pilgrims every year,” the Fund’s press service reported to the Interfax-Tourism portal.

The solemn unveiling ceremony and blessing of the monument will take place on September 7 on the occasion of the fifty-fifth anniversary of ROCOR’s appointment of St. John to the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the forty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Congress of Russian Americans.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the USA Anatoly Antonov, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York Sergey Ovsyannikov, Vice-Chair of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots of the USA Elena Branson and other distinguished guests were invited to the event.

The press service added that in June the Fund presented the Novo Diveyevo Convent at Nanuet, New York, with a monument to St. Seraphim, the Wonderworker of Sarov. “It is symbolic that the monuments to these two great saints of God will unite the East and West Coasts of the USA,” representatives of the organization noted.

The main project of the “Dialogue of Cultures: United World” Fund in Russia is the Ethnomir Cultural and Educational Tourist Center.
