Pskov, September 7, 2018
The North-Western Directorate for Construction, Reconstruction, and Restoration of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Culture has signed a state contract for the restoration of a 15th – 16th century architectural monument in the Pskov region, namely a church built in honor of the icon of Christ “Not Made by Hands”.
The church is of great historical, architectural, artistic and spiritual significance. The ceramic floors of its southern side-chapel and a small room situated above it are unique, one-of-a-kind treasures in the architectural heritage of Pskov. Ancient frescoes have also been preserved inside the church, one of them depicting the Equal-to-the-Apostles St. Olga [who was born near Pskov – ed.]
The organization responsible for drafting the project will conduct necessary research and provide architectural solutions for the restoration of the church, reports the Russian Ministry of Culture.
