The Orthodox Encyclopedia Church-Academic Center is completing its work on the publication of a large body of newly-identified documents pertaining to the question of the reunification of the Metropolis of Kiev with the Russian Orthodox Church in 1685-1686, reports the center’s website Sedmitza.
The body of documents being prepared for publication also covers earlier events inextricably connected with the historical background of this reunification.
The group of researchers, working under the direction of B. N. Flori of the Russian Academy of Sciences, have accomplished a colossal task which is nearing to completion. The documents should be published in late 2018-early 2019.
“However, the events of recent days, the publication of certain materials of the Synaxis of the Church of Constantinople, as well as a lot of not quite reliable information and interpretations overflowing various internet publications today force us to take an unprecedented step: The Orthodox Encyclopedia Church Academic Center is beginning the preliminary publication of the body of documents relating to this topic, both already published and newly identified,” the site reads.
As this publication is of a preliminary character, some of the documents are presented in modern Russian orthography and some in the original.
Explanatory articles and commentaries will be published later as they become available.
The materials (in Russian) can be found here.
