Kiev, December 14, 2018
Hundreds of Ukrainian faithful took to the streets today, braving the cold and snow, to express their love for their Orthodox faith, their loyalty to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and their disagreement with the Ukrainian government’s ongoing interference in Church affairs.
However, unlike the nationalist-schismatics, who often gather to shout at clergy and vandalize church buildings, and worse, the faithful of the Ukrainian Church gathered in prayer.
Gathered around a large cross, they prayed the Akathist to the Mother of God of the “Unbreakable Wall” on the street outside the Verkhovna Rada building in Kiev, calling on the Lord to preserve them from the interference of their own public representatives, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.
Video from the event was posted on the First Cossack Facebook page:
Additionally, the all-Ukrainian civil discussion “On the unconstitutional actions of the state authorities” is being held today outside the Verkhnova Rada, in which Ukrainians will have the chance to raise their voices against the Ukrainian state’s continued and unconstitutional meddling in Church life. The state has thus far refused to hear the voice of its people.
To protect their Church and their rights, Ukrainian citizens can also sign the “Declaration of resistance to oppression” online.
