Thousands in need have found assistance again this year through the multifaceted social and charitable work of the Metropolis of Piraeus of the Greek Orthodox Church, reports Romfea.

His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus distributed 7,500 “parcels of love,” as they call them, to those struggling to cope with their daily difficulties, with food and other essentials for their Christmas tables.

“Every man is the true temple of God in which the blessed God is born, the Lord Jesus Christ, and so every man becomes a little Christ and a citizen of the Kingdom of God,” the metropolitan said in his brief greeting, adding that “the message of Christmas is a message of love, truth and life. That's why we celebrate this day like our personal birthday.”

He also commented that “today’s meeting is an honorary manifestation of love to our fathers and brothers in the Lord, who, with a great diligence and care, minister the charitable and welfare work of our Church.”

The Church’s unique job is to bring Christ into the hearts and bodies of all men, Met. Seraphim said. “When you truly love God, you love man. This is announced today. And this is the work that we offer to all of you with much love and honor.”

The Metropolis also distributed 7,000 “parcels of love” on Holy Tuesday of this year.

The Huși Diocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church also recently held an even in which it distributed food and gifts to more than 1,000 children from its rural parishes.
