Pskov, March 18, 2019
A new project has been launched in the Pskov Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, under the spiritual guidance of His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Pskov and Porkhov, formerly the abbot of Sretensky Monastery in Moscow.
A “spiritual academy for the laity” will operate weekly throughout Lent, offering lessons on Orthodox theology and spirituality to all interested, with a question and answer session following each course, reports the diocesan website.
Among the many topics to be discussed, questions include:
-
Who is God?
-
Can man comprehend Him?
-
Is He present in this world that is so filled with misery, evil, and injustice?
Meetings will be conducted by graduates of the finest universities in Russia, including higher spiritual education institutions.
In June it was also announced that with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, a branch of Moscow’s Sretensky Seminary will open at the Pskov Caves Monastery, to train clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church with the possibility of obtaining a higher education under the school’s bachelor’s program
