Archimandrite Aimilianos (Vafides), the former abbot of the Athonite Simenopetra Monastery, reposed in the Lord following many years of sickness on May 9 at Annunciation Convent in Ormylia, Greece. He was buried at the same monastery, where the resident nuns had taken care of him in his sickness.
His funeral was attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Mesogaia, Abbot Ephraim of Vatopedi, and a number of other hierarchs, clergy, monastics, and faithful laymen.
His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece commented on Elder Aimilianos’ repose saying: “The Triumphant Church, from now on, is enriched with the figure of a great spiritual father; the former abbot of the holy Monastery of Simonos Petra and spiritual father at the Holy Cenobium of the Annunciation of the Mother of God, Ormylia, Elder Aimilianos.”
