The Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM) has been nominated for a Grammy again this year, following last year’s nomination for their recording, Teach Me Thy Statutes, featuring the works of Pavel Chesnikov.

This year, The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, sung by the PaTRAM Institute Singers has been nominated for Best Choral Performance, reports the PaTRAM website.

The hymns were composed by Kurt Sander and conducted by Maestro Peter Jermihov, and the recording was produced by Blanton Alspaugh, who also produced Teach Me Thy Statutes.

“We are honored and humbled to be nominated for the second year in a row and be counted among the foremost choral ensembles in the world!” the PaTRAM site reads.

Conductor Peter Jermihov writes: “The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom by Kurt Sander is unique in several respects. Within the body of repertoire contained in the Russian-based jurisdictions of North America (Moscow Patriarchate, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and the Orthodox Church in America), it is the first and only complete setting of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in English. Rooted in the 19th Century Russian models of such masters as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Gretchaninoff, and others, Sander’s Liturgy grows out of the monumental choral edifices of these masters and rightfully belongs in their midst.”
