Romanian President promulgates law declaring anti-communist ‘martyr city’ in Maramureş

President Klaus Iohannis promulgated the law by which the city of Dragomireşti in Maramureş County was declared a “martyr city” of the anti-communist struggle, the presidency announced on Nov. 13...

The bill refers to the “supreme price” paid by the Orthodox Monastery of Dragomireşti located in the Prihodiştii Valley, which was “set on fire by security troops disguised as peasants in winter clothes from Mara Valley, (completely different from the peasants clothing from Dragomireşti) on the night of 13 to 14 September 1949.”
