A number of Orthodox monasteries throughout America are in the midst of building projects that will allow them to house more monastics and receive more pilgrims, thus helping to spread the Orthodox faith.

Among them is Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, West Virginia.

Holy Cross is an English-speaking monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia with more than two dozen monks, novices, candidates, and layworkers. The quickly growing community has long needed a new, larger church, construction of which is underway.

The new church will have a capacity for 50 monks and 150 laypeople.

And earlier this month, the monastery announced a new matching funds campaign, whereby the first $200,000 donated will be matched by several generous benefactors. The campaign will run until Pentecost.

At Holy Assumption Monastery (Orthodox Church in America) in Calistoga, California, a new residence house for the nuns, named in honor of St. Nicholas has been built.

The monastery reported this month that work continues with interior finishing at the new structure, including floors, cabinetry, and plumbing.

To cover these final projects and to help pay off a $450,000 loan from the Orthodox Church Capital Improvement Fund, the sisterhood launched a “50K challenge” last month.

Every dollar donated in April up to $50,000 will also be matched by generous benefactors. This offer only runs through the end of April!

The Orthodox Monastery of St. Mary of Egypt (Orthodox Church in America) in Glendale, Arizona, has acquired land for a new home in Casa Grande, Arizona, and is in need of help.

The monastery was founded in Arizona in 2021 by a community of nuns who had already labored in asceticism together in Egypt for more than 20 years. The sisterhood writes:

God relocated us to the US to continue our ministry and asceticism here. With full faith in God, we packed up and ventured to this entirely new land. God blessed us greatly in His divine arrangements and care for us in all regards, and we have been able to serve Him in even more new ways here.

The sisterhood used up all their funds to purchase the land and is now seeking donated material and monetary donations to build on the land.

See the monastery website to learn more about the project and about how to donate.
