The Greek Orthodox Monastery of Panagia Parigoritissa (of the Virgin Mary of Consolation) is in the midst of a much-needed construction project to provide new housing for the growing sisterhood.
The monastery was founded by the great Athonite father Elder Ephraim in 1993.
“The sisterhood composed of 24 nuns under the guidance of Abbess Thekla labors with great intensity in farm-agricultural work, cheese making and crafting various handmade items. Apart from their arduous work, they receive visitors daily diligently offering themselves wholeheartedly to their neighbor as Christ did himself,” the monastery website reads.
Despite the monastery’s best efforts, it is struggling to bring its construction project to completion, as means, resources, and income streams remain limited. The matter has become urgent, as the continuous exposure to harsh weather conditions weakens the structure.

The monastery can also be supported by purchasing items from its extensive store, offering baptismal supplies, beeswax candles, books in English and Greek, crosses, icons of various styles, goat and sheep cheeses, herbal teas, and much more.
