The oldest wooden church in the Urals, in the village of Pyanteg, Perm Krai, will reopen to the public after much-needed repairs in the coming months.

The Holy Theophany Church was built more than 400 years ago and has long needed restoration. According to the Solikamsk Diocese, repairs should be completed by the end of the year, reports Global Orthodox.

However, there most likely won’t be regular services in the church. “It’s a small chapel—it can’t hold many people,” the diocese commented. “There’s a stone church next to it. It’s ancient too. We hope it will be restored as well.”

It’s believed that the church, a hexagonal log structure, was originally built as a watchtower and later converted into a chapel.
