Persecuted abbot of Kiev Caves Lavra diagnosed with serious heart condition after surgery

Doctors have diagnosed the persecuted abbot of the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra with a serious heart condition.

His Eminence Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod was rushed to the hospital on Monday, where he underwent emergency heart surgery. He has been under considerable stress for months on end, persecuted by state authorities and held under house arrest and in a detention center.

According to the monastery’s lawyer, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, Met. Pavel was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction.

Vladyka Pavel’s supporters have repeatedly called for mercy, noting his poor health, but the authorities have ignored their pleas.
