Several men gave their lives to Christ in monasticism in the Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Budva, Montenegro, during the recent visit of His Eminence Metropolitan Joanikije.
The Metropolitan visited Podmaine Monastery on Tuesday, where he celebrated the Divine Liturgy after tonsuring five men as riassaphore monks, reports the Metropolis of Montenegro.
The novices Andrija, Mirko, Vuk, Slobodan, and Saša were given the monastic names of Cornilije, Tychic, Aristarch, Antip, and Apollos. Two men, Pavle and Jovan, were also clothed as novices.
“Today, you have a laid a good foundation on which to build the home of your salvation,” the Metropolitan said. “And that home is built from holy virtues: from obedience, prayer, fasting, humility, patience, and every effort until you offer your life as a living sacrifice, pleasing to God to be filled with the Holy Spirit. And with that we can say that you achieve the meaning of the spiritual life.”
“May God grant that you may be filled with zeal for the glory of God. and to take up your cross, as the Lord said, and to follow Him, renouncing yourself, the worldly way of thinking, to empty yourself of the world so that you can be filled with the blessings of the Holy Spirit,” Met. Joanikije said to the new monks.
