The flooding brought on by Storm Daniel caused serious damage to the Thessaly Region of Greece last week, and many settlements remain under water, threatening the complete collapse of houses.

Tragically, at least 15 people lost their lives, and the water supply is too contaminated to be potable in many localities.

Of course, the Church is doing everything it can to help its suffering people. In the Metropolis of Thessaliotidos, where many people lost everything, Metropolitan Timotheos ordered to immediately prepare a place to host 40 people in the diocesan nursing home, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

He also instructed that the diocesan Houses of Love begin preparing food, and already more than 2,000 meals are being offered daily.

The Metropolitan also visited the affected villages and the facilities where people are being accommodated.

Other dioceses and Churches have also rushed to the aid of the flooding victims. The Diocese of Kastoria sent 34 pallets of food, cleaning products, and water, for example, and the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus decided yesterday to hold a fundraiser for the victims.
