Panagia Pantanassa Icon honored at Vatopedi metochion

A multitude of Orthodox faithful came out to honor the Theotokos and celebrate the feast of her Panagia Pantanassa Icon.

The icon is among the spiritual treasures of the Athonite Vatopedi Monastery, and its feast is celebrated on September 24 every year at the Vatopedi metochion of St. Nicholas in Porto Lagos.

The Mother of God was honored by locals and pilgrims from throughout Greece, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The Panagia Pantanassa Icon was brought from Vatopedi by the abbot Archimandrite Ephraim. He was joined in the Divine services by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Xanthi, Metropolitan Joachim of Prousa and other hieromonks of Vatopedi and deacons.

After the Divine Liturgy, there was a procession with the holy icon throughout the monastery.

All present were then offered a monastic meal in the guest house.

The Pantanassa icon of the Mother of God is kept at Vatopedi Monastery and has the power to heal oncological diseases. Its healing properties were particularly revealed in the 1980s and 1990s with numerous cases of cures and the glory of the icon spreading all over Greece and the whole of the Orthodox world.
