In honor of the feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Synodal Department for Charity of the Moscow Patriarchate organized several new charity projects.

“This initiative aims to ensure that all who want to can do a good deed in memory of the Holy Hierarch and help those in need,” the department states.

“St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is known for his mercy. Traditionally, on his feast, people give each other gifts and do good deeds. Therefore, we decided to organize a special campaign,” says Natalia Kulyeva of the online platform mirom.help where people can donate towards a number of causes.

The new charity projects include:

  • Christmas gifts for children of the Donbass – to benefit 6,500 children

  • From Siberia with Love – volunteers sew bed linen and other necessary items for hospital patients

  • Restore a church-humanitarian aid center in the Donbass

  • Food packages for children with disabilities for Christmas

  • Cover rent for the only humanitarian aid center beyond the Arctic Circle

The mirom.help site also includes more than a dozen other projects that have already been up and running. To date, 47 campaigns have been completed, raising a total of 30.9 million rubles ($340,000+).

The Russian Orthodox Church is one of the largest charity organizers in Russia today, with 84 shelters for mothers, 264 humanitarian aid centers, 50 elderly care centers, more than 10,000 social workers, volunteers, and nurses, social departments in more than 200 dioceses, and a round-the-clock hotline.
