After a long break, the Moscow-based Institute for Bible Translation has released a new book in the Nogai language.

The last publication in Nogai was the Proverbs of Solomon in 2017. Nogai is the language of a Turkic people living in Dagestan, the Stavropol Region, Karachay-Cherkessia, Chechnya, and the Astrakhan Province. The language belongs to the Turkic group of the Altai language family. As of 2020, there are more than 109,000 Nogai speakers in all.

Now the Nogai people have access to the five books of Moses in their own language. The book of Genesis was previously published in 2016, but the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy are being published for the first time in Nogai, the Institute reports.

The Institute worked on the new edition for about five years.

The new publication also includes a glossary of terms and an appendix with a family tree of the 12 Tribes of Israel and maps indicating where the major events of the Pentateuch took place.

All of the Institute’s Nogai publications are available in various e-formats here.
